APARTMENTS, WHICH MAKE UP 28 PERCENT OF DWELLING SPACE, ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 18 PERCENT OR LESS OF TOTAL PERSONAL AND PROPERTY CRIMES IN A 2-YEAR FLORIDA STUDY AIMED AT INCREASING AWARENESS OF CRIME FOR APARTMENT-DWELLERS.
Abstract
AT A ST. PETERSBURG, FLA., APARTMENT COMPLEX, PERSONAL CRIME, INCLUDING HOMICIDE, RAPE, ROBBERY, AND ASSAULT ACCOUNTS FOR 23 PERCENT OF CRIMES COMMITTED ON THE PREMISES (THE APARTMENTS THEMSELVES, PARKING LOTS, RENTAL OFFICES, MODEL APARTMENTS, AND OTHER FACILITIES WITHIN THE COMPLEX), DURING THE YEARS 1974-76. THE REMAINING 77 PERCENT OF APARTMENT CRIMES ARE AGAINST PROPERTY--BURGLARY, LARCENY, AND AUTOTHEFT. EACH KIND OF CRIME IS REPORTED WITH AGE, SEX, AND RACE OF BOTH THE VICTIM AND THE SUSPECT, MODUS OPERANDI, WEAPON, CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE CRIME, AND THE MONTHLY TOTALS AND LOCATION BY PATROL. TABLES SUMMARIZE THIS MATERIAL BY GIVING EACH KIND OF CRIME BY BEAT OR ZONE AND MONTH AND THEN COMPARING THE CRIME RATE FOR DIFFERENT YEARS AND THE RATE OF CHANGE. (RFC)
