Abstract
THE 1975 REPORT BY THE GOVERNOR'S ADVISORY PANEL ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE DELINEATES THE FOLLOWING GOALS: IMPROVE CRIME DETECTION AND APPREHENSION CAPABILITES, ESTABLISH PROCEDURES AND LEGISLATION TO DEAL WITH MASS DISORDERS AND NATURAL DISASTERS; STREAMLINE ADMINISTRATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND DEVELOP PLANNING CAPABILITIES AT ALL LEVELS. ALSO MENTIONED ARE THESE STEPS: UPGRADE THE QUALITY OF PERSONNEL WORKING IN THE KANSAS CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, ESTABLISH STANDARD RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION POLICIES, IMPROVE TRAINING AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS, AND INSTITUTE A FAIR SYSTEM OF SALARIES AND BENEFITS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES; DEVELOP AN INTEGRATED, COMPUTERIZED INFORMATION SYSTEM TO BE USED BY ALL AGENCIES INVOLVED IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE; AND IMPROVE LAW ENFORCEMENT EQUIPMENT, COURT FACILITIES, AND CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES AND POSSIBLE STRATEGIES ARE DESCRIBED FOLLOWING THE GENERAL DEFINITION OF EACH GOAL. (MJM)
