The report begins with a definition of juvenile court and explanations of unruly cases and other types of cases. Brief summary tables provide information on types of cases disposed, delinquency cases among different age groups, unruly cases disposed of by age, and the 10 counties with the largest numbers of delinquency cases. More detailed tables focus on delinquency cases by source of referral, reason for referral, sex, type of disposition, age, race and previous court experience. Similar tables are provided for traffic cases, dependency and neglect cases, special service cases, and unruly cases. The unruly case was defined by law in 1969 to include cases that involved acts which were troublesome to society, but which were not necessarily crimes. Included were truancy, running away, and similar acts. During 1976, almost 90 percent of the cases disposed of involved three categories: traffic offenses (44.9 percent), delinquency (28.4 percent), and unruly behavior (13.4 percent).
