Robbery is defined as 'the taking or attempting to take anything of value from the care, custody, or control of a person or persons by force or the threat of force or violence.' Robbery includes armed robbery, strong arm robbery (no weapon), and attempted armed or strong arm robbery. Burglary is defined as 'the unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft,' and attempts are included. Forcible entry belong under this category. The data for 1972 through 1977 are from the State's uniform crime reports, and those for 1971 are from the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement. Both robbery and the burglary sections are divided according to categories of Illinois places: cities with a population of 25,000 or more; metropolitan counties; nonmetropolitan countries; and nonmetropolitan planning regions of the Illinois Law Enforcement Commission. Each division contains an introduction explaining the range of values shown on the graphs and a table summarizing the obvious trends. Footnotes and a bibliography of six references are included.
