Canada is noted to be experiencing the impact of the worldwide proliferation of drug abuse. Patterns of distribution and abuse of heroin, cocaine, psychotropic drugs, and cannabis are described. Trends in drug trafficking and abuse are predicted for 1980. Outlaw motorcycle gangs are reported to be involved in thefts, prostitution, drugs, armed robberies, weapons offenses, extortion, bombings, and murder. The activities of these gangs in various Provinces are described. Chinese youth gangs are noted to have become increasingly involved in several aspects of organized crime, including gambling, prostitution, heroin importation and distribution, and extortion. The activities of various Chinese youth gangs in the Vancouver area are described. The activities of organized crime in the areas of prostitution, pornography, loansharking, gambling and bookmaking, counterfeit, fraud, and customs and excise are discussed. Major crimes which do not necessarily involve syndicates of organized crime, but which required extensive group planning are described, as they occurred in the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Some activities of the government in its attempt to deal with organized crime in 1979 are described.
