Abstract
Among the new programs described is a police movie club which is designed to provide recreation for children during the summer school vacation while educating them about the police role in the community. Local merchants support the program since mothers can go shopping after dropping off their children at the club. Another program has assigned police officers to local secondary schools to help prevent student lawlessness and to promote positive contacts between school children and the police. A Citizens Crime Prevention Coalition was established in another community where marked, crime-watch areas have been organized; citizen band radios are used to report crimes, and a Project Identification is in operation. A paper also describes the implementation of a full-service team police model within the Charleston Police Department. In this model, a small team of police officers provides all police services for a specified area, the citizens of the neighborhood recognize the officers as individuals, and the officers become more thoroughly informed of local problems. Other papers describe an adopt-a-senior project, integrated information system applications, a juvenile officer project, the police use of subcompact automobiles, and police physical fitness programs. Also discussed are new electronic security technologies and a computer and Tack-O-Graph project. Data tables, charts, illustrations, and organizational documents are included.
