Devon and Cornwall Constabulary has eight divisions which operate individualized preventive policing sections, each discharging a range of programs designed to meet a diversity of community situations. This form of law enforcement is a planned complementary ingredient to the total police strategy, which includes preventive patrols, incident cars, task forces, criminal investigation, and other activities. A model juvenile bureau also has been created which emphasizes the importance of improving consultations with all agencies involved with delinquents, problem families, missing children, and young offenders. A joint services youth support team allows social workers and police officers to formulate joint intiatives to combat and contain crime and related problems. In addition, a police-public night school has proven popular with the community, and participants at one police night school course stayed together as a community action group in an attempt to reduce juvenile crime in their areas; this type of public spirit is becoming common.
