This videotape demonstrates how the Justice Retrieval and Inquiry System (JURIS) is used to support the investigation and litigation of criminal cases.
Abstract
The tape focuses on ways JURIS can be applied to analyze information found on various types of documents commonly subpoenaed in investigations of organized and white-collar crime. The demonstration assumes that an investigation is being made into allegations that the price of a common stock of a company listed on a stock exchange in New York has been manipulated. Hundreds of documents have been subpoena in the investigation, and the data have been entered into the computer. The database is searched for information to document the prosecution's case. The demonstration shows how the search is performed. Several techniques are available for displaying document information on the terminal: sight format displays a number of documents on the terminal screen with abbreviated information, while the full text format shows all the information available on one document. The demonstration indicates how a search request is narrowed to focus on the specific type of information desired. The searches performed on this tape are based on an actual investigation of a stock manipulation case.
