Abstract
DATA ARE PROVIDED ON THE EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, PRIOR INSTITUTIONAL EXPERIENCE, LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT, SALARIES, AGE, SEX, AND MARITAL STATUS OF PERSONNEL IN INSTITUTIONS FOR DELINQUENTS. INFORMATION IS INCLUDED ON USE OF A MERIT SYSTEM, BEGINNING SALARIES OFFERED AND FRINGE BENEFITS AND SUPPLEMENTS TO SALARIES FOR THE PERSONNEL. THE SURVEY CONCLUDED THAT THE MAJORITY OF INSTITUTIONAL PERSONNEL DO NOT HAVE MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND STANDARDS FOR THE CORRECTIONS PROFESSION NOR RECOMMENDED AMOUNTS OF BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE FOR THEIR PRESENT EMPLOYMENT. DATA ALSO SHOWED INSTITUTIONS FOR DELINQUENTS HAVE DIFFICULTY IN RECRUITING AND TRAINING SUFFICIENT NUMBERS OF WELL-QUALIFIED PERSONNEL.
