Abstract
Information on the worldwide significant criminal acts involving civil aviation (1982) provides overall data as well as dates and brief summaries for each incident. Data are also provided on explosions aboard aircraft, including incidents by country or location, per airline/operator, type of aircraft, circumstances, and casualties. U.S. registered aircraft hijacking statistics are summarized by year from 1961 to January 1, 1983. Location, type of carrier, and outcome are indicated for each incident. The chronology of hijackings of U.S. registered aircraft and the legal status of hijackers indicates the date, the name of the hijacker, flight number and type of aircraft, next scheduled stop, hijacker destination, weapons used, and sentence imposed. A separate summary is provided for the legal dispositions, including the disposition and charge for each hijacking defendant. Data on U.S. and foreign registered aircraft hijackings cover the names of the hijackers, airline, type of aircraft, flight plan, and outcome.
