A school is vandalized by gang members, and representatives of the school, community, and the criminal justice system gather in a room to discuss the problem and propose solutions.
Abstract
Meeting attendees include the school superintendent, the school principal, a teacher, a barrio worker, a judge, a police officer, a suburban matron whose daughter was raped and killed, a probation officer, a community/gang worker, and two members of different gangs. The discussion focuses on the leniency of the juvenile justice system in handling juvenile offenders, who usually are out on the streets to commit more crimes soon after being processed, and on the inability of the community to come up with viable solutions to gangs.
