Abstract: THE STUDY INCLUDES A DESCRIPTION AND COMPARISON OF THE CURRENT ALLOCATION OF POLICE PATROL RESOURCES IN SIX MAJOR POLICE JURISDICTIONS, A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF CRIME, POLICE RESOURCES, AND DEMOGRAPHIC DATA IN SEVERAL CITIES, A DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS AND EQUITY OF THE DEPLOYMENT OF POLICE PATROL SERVICES, A DESCRIPTION OF THE STATE OF THE ART OF PATROL ALLOCATION METHODS, WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHANGE IN CURRENT METHODS, AND AN IDENTIFICATION OF SOME IMPORTANT PROBLEM AREAS AND KNOWLEDGE DEFICIENCIES THAT MIGHT BENEFIT FROM RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTATION.
