This handbook advises parents and their children about how to prevent child abductions.
Abstract
Three sections offer advice on ways to prevent an abduction and precise steps to take in the event of an abduction, a child-snatching, or a child running away. Material aids are provided for dealing with the missing children problem. The first section lists numerous practical tips to enhance a child's chances of avoiding an abduction and of being returned if an abduction occurs and to minimize the potential of a parent snatching a child. The second section lists actions to take in the event of an abduction, child-snatching, or runaway. Parents are urged to communicate with their children to prevent runaways. The last section suggests ways to establish an absentee reporting program for a child's school, a block parent program for the neighborhood, a voluntary fingerprint identification program, and a missing child network of concerned citizens. It includes samples of identification dossiers for parents and children. Additional material aids include a sample missing persons report; a top priority phone and address list; and lists of missing children organizations, pictorial listing organizations and runaway hotlines, detectives who specialize in missing persons cases, and cult awareness groups. A bibliography provides 17 references.
