Abstract
The format for each of the six 20-minute instruction segments consists of dramatizations of the problems to be addressed and the techniques for effectively dealing with them. Informative lectures are interspersed with the dramatizations to interpret the problem situations and outline the principles, techniques, and steps for appropriate staff action. The segment on counseling techniques focuses on dealing with violent residents and suicide prevention. The segment on substance abuse identifies the signs of substance abuse and various treatment approaches. Other segments explain juveniles' legal rights and how detention staff can ensure their implementation, procedures and techniques for juvenile detention and intake interviews and physical restraints for uncontrollably violent residents.
