A total of 13,363 arrests for felony firearms offenses were reported during 1983, resulting in 11,389 firearm indictments. The statewide conviction rate was 79.7 percent, and the median processing time from indictment to disposition was 172 days. A total of 1,020 transcripts of court cases cited mitigating circumstances which affected mandatory sentence terms. Thirteen figures and 59 tables illustrate the data.
