Abstract
One folder instructs parents in how to prevent their children from being kidnapped or sexually abused and what to do should their children be missing or sexually abused. The same folder also contains materials for a school fingerprinting program for children that can help police identify them if they are missing. Camera-ready 'McGruff' (the crime-prevention dog) brochures explain to children and adults how to prevent crimes typically committed against children, such as sexual abuse, kidnapping, and bicycle theft. Another folder contains materials for educators, parents, and children to help them teach and learn crime prevention principles at school. Targeted crimes and situations encompass school vandalism, theft from school lockers, and safety principles to follow when traveling to and from school. The presentation media include a McGruff coloring book, a poster contest, and letters to McGruff seeking advice on how to deal with various threatening situations children are facing. Other folders contain materials on children and youth as well as a list of organizations and films that can help in preventing crimes against children. Booklets contain guidelines for preventing a broad range of crimes against children, a brochure lists National Crime Prevention Council materials and other materials briefly describe crime prevention programs and activities.
