The board meets once per month to review and decide claims and conduct other business. Program funding is by legislative appropriation and is limited to $25,000 for any one claim. Persons who may make a claim for economic loss occasioned by the crime are limited to the victim; dependents of a deceased victim; the estate of a deceased victim; any person who has purchased services for the victim; and the guardian, conservator, or agent of any of the above persons. If the claim then meets standards for eligibility, the claimant is requested to submit a claim form, which indicates the loss sustained and what part of the loss has been paid through collateral sources, such as private hospitalization or medical plans. Provision is made for payment of an emergency award in urgent cases. Data concerning the budget, claims statistics, average process time, denied claims, and victim statistics are included. Appendixes include Chapter 299B, The Crime Victims Reparation Law; a register of claims for the 1983; and various graphical data depicting trends of financial activity associated with the program since its inception.
