Crime prevention suggestions for individuals cover home security, neighborhood watch, personal safety, sexual assault, protection for the elderly, confidence games, arson, and car theft.
Abstract
The importance of involvement in crime prevention is emphasized: working with neighbors, reporting crime to the police, and testifying in court. Tips on home security cover locks, automatic light timers, marking valuables, vacation safety, commonsense rules for children, and choosing a security system. Other suggestions focus on preventing street crimes, crime prevention for senior citizens, rape, and child molestation. Special attention is given to rape victims: what they should do after the attack, medical and court procedures, and special services. Also described are common frauds involving home repairs or improvements, land sales, investments, etc.; arson prevention for individuals and neighborhoods; and current criminal justice system issues. A bibliography of books, booklets, magazine and newspaper articles is appended.
