Abstract: AN ADDITIONAL PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT WAS TO DEVELOP THE CAPACITY OF OTHER AGENCIES TO ADMINISTER DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAMS. OF THE INTERVENTION PROGRAMS EVALUATED - EDUCATION-COUNSELING, TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS, AND PSYCHODRAMA - THE EDUCATION-COUNCILING METHOD SEEMED THE MOST EFFECTIVE, HAVING FEWER NEW OFFENSES THAN ANY OTHER GROUP AND BEING LEAST LIKELY TO HAVE DRUG-RELATED RECIDIVISM. GAINS IN DEVELOPING THE CAPACITY OF OTHER AGENCIES TO ADMINISTER SIMILAR PROGRAMS WERE MINIMAL, BUT THE PROJECT DID PROVIDE AN ECONOMICAL ALTERNATIVE TO COURT PROCESSING FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF MINORS, WITH NO APPARENT INCREASE IN RISK. THIS DOCUMENT INCLUDES A BRIEF BACKGROUND REVIEW OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROGRAM, RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND METHODS, AND DISCUSSION RELATING TO EACH OF THE GRANT PROPOSAL OBJECTIVES. THE APPENDICES CONTAIN TYPE OF DATA COLLECTED, DATA ANALYSIS PROCEDURES, AND SUPPORTING DATA NOT CONTAINED IN THE TEXT. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
