Annotation: A collection of articles demonstrates the value of social group work concepts applied to domestic and other forms of violence.
Abstract: An article on the various forms of domestic violence and the appropriate models of social work with groups is a seminal contribution to theory and scholarship. It introduces the following articles, which use behavioral, interactional, and humanistic approaches with various service populations. In another article, the ideological underpinnings of group work practice for violent persons are discussed, with a focus on the development of a humanistic and androgynous model of service to abusing men. This research effort is an important contribution to emerging areas of practice. After an article on creative group interventions with victims of child sexual abuse, an article demonstrates the value of a group in a crisis situation, as children in a school become secondary victims or "survivors" of a homicide of a classmate. In addition to the papers on theory, models, and research, social workers present practice papers on their work with rape survivors and battered women. Chapter references.
