Annotation: This document provides an update on Wisconsin law relating to offenses and penalties for drinking by those under the age of 21.
Abstract: The legal drinking age in Wisconsin is 21 years. The document outlines legislative changes made to the drinking law in 1989 and covers the following areas: prohibitions and penalties for providing alcoholic beverages to under-age persons or permitting or contributing to the consumption of alcoholic beverages by under-age persons; prohibitions and penalties for allowing an under-age person to be present in places selling alcoholic beverages; prohibitions and penalties for procuring alcoholic beverages by an under-age person, entering a place licensed to sell alcoholic beverages, or misrepresenting one's age; and prohibitions and penalties for possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages by an underage person. Proof of age cards effective until and after January 1, 1990 are described, along with penalties for presenting false information as to one's age.
