Abstract: The primary data source for this digest is the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting System. In 1990 a total of 251,200 Crime Index offenses (murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson) were reported in the State, a 0.9-percent decrease from 1989. In 23.3 of every 100 Crime Index offenses, the cases were cleared by arrest or exceptional means. Violent offenses composed 13.9 percent of the total 1990 Crime Index, a 12.2-percent increase over 1989. There were 427 murders, 1,578 forcible rapes, 10,971 robberies, and 22,381 aggravated assaults reported. Property offenses composed 86.1 percent of the total 1990 Missouri Crime Index. There were 215,843 Property Index offenses reported in 1990, a 2.8-percent decrease from 1989. There were 51,013 burglaries, 135,811 thefts, 26,942 motor vehicle thefts, and 2,077 arsons reported in 1990. Extensive tables, figures and a glossary
