Annotation: This report is a summary analysis of Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) project activity data relevant to the RISS program guideline requirements established by the Office of Justice Programs.
Abstract: RISS is a Federally funded program that supports law enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking, organized criminal activity, and white-collar crime. Six regional projects provide criminal information exchange and other related operational support services to local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies located in all 50 States. RISS project activity data are routinely collected and analyzed with the cooperation and assistance of the projects. The activity data in this report cover the years 1988, 1989, and 1990. The summary briefly describes the RISS Program, project components, and activity data that describe the various project components. Project activity and implementation of shared funding alternatives are discussed, and service and activity growth trends are summarized. The latter address the growth rate for the number of principal criminal subjects maintained in project databases, the growth rate for submissions of principal criminal subjects to project databases, the growth rate for inquiries, the growth rate for total "hits," attendance at information- sharing and training programs, equipment, and membership.
