Annotation: The 1991-1992 annual report of Canada's Solicitor General describes the department's accomplishments and the activities of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the National Parole Board, the Correctional Service of Canada, and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
Abstract: The report covers the Solicitor General's Police and Security Branch, Planning and Management Branch, Corrections Branch, and Communications Group. It also describes RCMP operations related to community and aboriginal policing, customs, emergency procedures, drug enforcement, economic crime, criminal intelligence, protective policing, and law enforcement services. Highlights of National Parole Board operation are noted that focus on correctional reform, improved decisionmaking, enhanced productivity in processing pardons, and management improvements. The organization and achievements of Canada's correctional system are examined with respect to sex offender treatment, substance abuse, aboriginal offenders, environmental issues, and management support services.
