Annotation: Using a self-instructional format, this behavior management correspondence course is designed to contribute to the positive management of youth in juvenile facilities.
Abstract: The course is intended to help juvenile facility staff evaluate their effectiveness in managing juvenile behavior and to help them teach juveniles self-control and other appropriate behaviors. The course is comprised of 10 chapters: Introduction to Behavior Management; Understanding the Behavior of Juvenile Offenders; Punishment and Discipline; Building Relationships; Communicating Effectively; Interacting With Juvenile Offenders; Assessing the Juvenile and the Environment; Intervention Techniques; Returning to Normal; and Creating a Healthy Environment. Each chapter contains objectives, textual material, questions, and an answer key. A final test and answer sheet are included in the second part of the course manual. References and photographs
