Annotation: This report discusses the prisoner escort and court custody services in two areas of England that were contracted to different companies.
Abstract: The data used in this report were obtained from satisfaction surveys completed by correctional personnel with daily working experience with the contractors. The surveys covered general performance, contractors' relationships with client groups, staffing levels, planning and foresight, punctuality, vehicles, treatment of inmates, recruitment and training practices, comparisons with earlier services, and recent performance. Taken together, 95 percent of those surveyed were satisfied or very satisfied with the general performance of contract personnel. The report concludes with some recommendations designed to maintain these high levels of satisfaction. 5 figures, 2 tables, 3 appendixes, and 1 reference
