Annotation: This September 1995 monthly report presents data on California's inmate population and movement, institutional racial-ethnic distribution, parole population and movements, and parole racial-ethnic distribution.
Abstract: Data on commitment and movement type are shown for the inmate population for each month from September 1994 through September 1995, with the total yearly difference shown. The number of inmates is shown for males and females classified as felons, civil narcotic addicts, youth authority, county diagnostic, safekeepers, and "other State/Federal." The total number of males institutionalized in September 1995 was 124,912, compared to 118,259 in September 1994. There were 9,052 female inmates in September 1995, compared to 8,289 in September 1994. Data on prison population movements encompass each month from September 1994 through September 1995. Categories of inmates received encompass new admissions and parole returns. Those released include those paroled, discharged, and who died while in prison. Data on arrivals/transfers and departures/transfers are shown for male and female felons, civil addicts, and "others." The number in various admission or return statuses are shown by institution as of September 30, 1995. The number by ethnic group for each institution as of September 30, 1995, pertain to whites, blacks, Hispanic/Mexican, and "other." Institutional populations are also presented by ethnic group and gender. Data on parole commitment/movement are distinguished by male and female parolees and encompass each month from September 1994 through September 1995. Data on parole population movements address those received and those released. One table presents data for parole and outpatient population by ethnic group, gender, commitment type, and region as of September 30, 1995.
