The East Bay Partnership in the Oakland-San Francisco Bay area, spurred by an alarming rise in homicides committed by and against young people, involves regional collaboration and community policing. |
Abstract: |
The partnership represents a collaborative effort by nearly 50 public and private groups, including cities, counties, school districts, higher educational institutions, and law enforcement agencies. Based on an established crime prevention and control strategy, the partnership coordinates funding from all levels of government and from private foundations. The partnership has helped political leaders think comprehensively about crime prevention programs and service delivery and has implemented comprehensive model programs that serve East Bay residents. A brief history of the partnership is presented, the partnership's strategic planning process and organizational structure are detailed, the partnership's impact on communities is assessed, and examples of partnership initiatives are described. |
