This biannual report on drug interdiction activities in Maryland covers the period January 1 to June 30, 1993. |
Abstract: |
The report highlights the demographics of the drug couriers (sex, race and age), behavioral patterns (time of day, day of week and route of travel), individual barracks activities, and notable seizures. It also includes other interdiction-related information of interest to police officers in the field such as officer safety. Information sources included EPIC (El Paso Intelligence Center) Briefs, Criminal Information Bulletins and newspaper articles. The Criminal Intelligence Division considers an initial traffic violation which led to the search and seizure of a controlled dangerous substance or money in a highway interdiction. Only those interdiction stops that result in seizures meeting the EPIC criteria have been tabulated in this report. The EPIC criteria and other criteria are included. The report also presents a summary of non-highway interdictions, e.g., airports, bus and train stations, and postal services. That information was obtained from various law enforcement agencies in Maryland. |
