Annotation: This guide describes how abused, neglected, and runaway children, referred to as children in need of aid, are protected by the State of Alaska.
Abstract: The guide describes how child protection cases are handled by the State and the roles played by various individuals, agencies, and courts. In addition, the guide presents a general overview of the law and defines technical terms so that people who need to understand the child protection system can follow the events in a particular case. The guide has seven sections: child protection laws and responsible agencies, stages in the child protection process, case illustration, charts and statistics, legal terms, resources, and index. The guide notes the purpose of Alaska's child protection system is to identify, treat, and reduce child abuse and neglect. 8 figures
