Annotation: This information kit contains an abridged version of the Guide for Implementing the Comprehensive Strategy for Serious, Violent and Chronic Juvenile Offenders (1995), modified for use in Texas.
Abstract: The Guide is a resource to help Texas communities implement the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)’s Comprehensive Strategy for Serious, Violent and Chronic Juvenile Offenders (1993). It gives detailed, research-focused information on key topics, including prevention, graduated (progressive) sanctions and risk assessment, with slight modifications related to Texas laws and situations. It also includes a planning workbook to facilitate local Comprehensive Strategy planning. An accompanying video cassette presents “lessons learned” by five Texas communities that participated in the original Comprehensive Strategy Project. The video includes interviews with members of the communities’ planning teams and a brief overview of the risk and protective factors specific to each community. A CD-ROM contains Comprehensive Strategy publications developed by OJJDP, the manual and planning workbook in support of a comprehensive Strategy for Texas Youth, and a number of resources and relevant publications.
