Title: Directory of New York State Criminal Justice Agencies, Fifteenth Edition
Date Published: 2000
Annotation: This Directory provides address listings of major criminal justice agencies in the State of New York.
Abstract: The Directory divides 39 categories into nine major sections: Law Enforcement, Prosecution and Defense, Courts, Probation, Youth, Corrections, Parole, Associations and State-Level Criminal Justice Agencies. Sheriffs Departments are listed in the Law Enforcement category even though most also operate correctional facilities at the county level. Within categories, agencies are listed alphabetically by county, agency, region, or person; State Police Troop Headquarters are listed alphabetically by the troop letter designation. Law enforcement agencies are departments that report offense and arrest information to the Division of Criminal Justice Services. These departments consist of police officers or, in the case of land grant colleges, peace officers and/or private security staff. Police departments that are both town and village departments are listed under the village. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is listed under City Police Departments although the NYPD has jurisdiction over Bronx, Kings, New York, Richmond, and Queens Counties. The former Division for Youth is now part of the Office of Children and Family Services in the Department of Family Assistance.
