Annotation: This CD-ROM presents the variable description list and the codebook for the National Corrections Reporting Program (NCRP) 2000, which is designed to provide a consistent and comprehensive description of prisoners entering and leaving the custody or supervision of State and Federal authorities.
Abstract: The introduction describes the data collection process, concepts and definitions, and the file structure and presents Bureau of Justice Statistics processing notes, codebook information, and ICPSR processing information. The variable description list contains the item numbers and names of 99 variables in the following categories: ICPSR processing, county, demographic variables, prison admission, prior incarceration, offense, prison release and parole release, parole release only, calculated variables, allocated variables, and original codes reported by State variables. The codebook provides information on each variable. The information for each variable includes the variable number, the abbreviated variable name, variable type, the width of the variable in the data file, the number of implied decimals in the variable, and the starting and ending column locations of the variable in the data file. 1998 NCRP explanatory notes and appended 1998 NCRP User’s Guide
