Abstract: This volume summarizes findings from the 2004 National Survey on Drug Courts and Other Problem Solving Courts, which was conducted by the National Drug Court Institute in the last half of 2004. In addition to reporting on the type and aggregate number of operational drug courts (n=1,621) and other problem solving courts (n=2,558), sections of this report summarize major drug court research since May 2004 and profile State drug court legislation and the amount of each State's appropriation for such court programs. Information is also provided on drug court models, populations, and capacity, as well as the number of confirmed drug-free babies born to active female drug court participants in 2004. A new feature in this volume is a list of national organizations that serve as resources in the fields of drug courts and other problem solving courts. Among the types of courts included in the data and information presented are adult drug courts, campus drug courts, community courts, domestic violence courts, DWI (driving while intoxicated) courts, family dependency treatment courts, gambling courts, gun courts, juvenile drug courts, mental health courts, reentry drug courts, teen courts, tribal healing to wellness courts, and truancy courts. The common features of these courts are their focus on one type of case, specialized court personnel training for such cases, and close judicial monitoring of compliance with court dispositions. 7 tables, 6 figures, 36 references, and 14 notes
