Annotation: This comprehensive resource package, prepared by the Community-Oriented Policing Services (COPS), provides a plethora of community policing solutions to address youth violence and gang crime.
Abstract: In an attempt to provide guidance to law enforcement agencies in facing the challenges of youth violence and gang crime, the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Service (COPS), developed a toolkit. The toolkit or resource package consists of several publications, as well as a resource CD-ROM on gang involvement. Eight of the publications are part of the COPS Problem-Oriented Guides for Police, Problem-Specific Guides Series and cover the areas of gun violence among serious young offenders, juvenile runaways, bomb threats in schools, drug dealing in open-air markets, underage drinking, bullying in schools, graffiti, and disorderly youth in public places. In addition, the publication, Addressing School-Related Crime and Disorder: Lessons from School-Based Problem-Solving Projects and Street Gangs and Interventions: Innovative Problem Solving with Network Analysis, under the COPS Innovations series is included in the resource package. Lastly, a resource CD-ROM is included on solutions for law enforcement to address gang crime.
