Annotation: This report presents data and information on the cases processed by the Juvenile Division of the Huron County Common Pleas Court (Ohio) for the year 2007.
Abstract: After stating the mission of the court's Juvenile Division and its "balanced approach" to juvenile justice for delinquent and "unruly" children, the report presents data on the number of cases filed for 2007 compared with 2006. The number of cases are presented by gender and type (delinquency, unruliness, violation of probation, traffic offenses, and dependency/neglect/abuse). A separate table shows the number of abused, dependent, and neglected cases by gender for each of eight dispositions by the court. This is followed by a table that shows the number of cases by gender for each offense type under the general categories of delinquency, unruliness, and traffic violations. Next, the number of cases by gender are presented for each type of disposition for delinquent, unruly, and traffic offenses. A section on court services provides information and data on the work of court interns in 2007 as well as the participation of processed youth in the Study Group Program, which is for youth having problems with school grades and attendance. Data and information are also provided on cases sent to mediation and the "Intervention Court." The latter court specializes in assisting juveniles with substance-abuse dependency and mental health issues. Data and information are also provided on the following court services: Court Appointed Special Advocates (volunteers who act as advocates for children involved in abuse and neglect cases); the Community Services Learning Program (provides opportunities for delinquent youth to have positive experiences in serving the community); and the Reach Our Youth program (a mentoring program for youth at risk for delinquency).
