Annotation: A critical review of the literature discusses the current bullying literature and identifies the need to continue exploring the intricacies and psychological implications of gender differences in bullying behavior.
Abstract: Before the rash of school shootings in the United States in the 1990s, international research dominated the bullying literature. More recently, American researchers have added to the evolving definition and recognition of the prevalence of bullying behavior in schools throughout the United States. New research has added to the public understanding of different forms of bullying by indicating that there are differences between the ways boys and girls bully. Argued in this literature review, while researchers attempt to construct bully prevention and intervention strategies and programs, it is imperative that they also consider these gender differences and the longevity of the bullying problem into high school.
