Annotation: This strategic plan provides an overview of the problems and challenges faced by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), including its future goals and objectives.
Abstract: The DOJ Strategic Plan FY 2003-2008 updates the earlier strategic plan (2002), and provides a comprehensive, realistic, multiyear plan for carrying out the Departments' mission. This strategic plan promotes the following goals of the Department: to prevent terrorism and promote America's security; enforce Federal laws and represent the rights and interests of the American people; assist State, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence; and ensure the fair and efficient operation of the Federal justice system. The publication is divided into four sections. Chapter 1, gives a brief account of the major themes underlying the strategic goals and , including some of the key issues likely faced in the years ahead; chapter 2, sets forth the goals, objectives, strategies, and outcome goals for the next 5 years; chapter 3, describes key programs and initiatives, including the Attorney General’s Management Initiatives and the President’s Management Agenda, that support the mission; and chapter 4, describes the role of program evaluations within the components of DOJ and provides a schedule of ongoing and planned evaluations.
