Abstract: The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) was created to provide national leadership to Federal, State, local, and tribal efforts to prevent juvenile delinquency, strengthen the juvenile justice system, and protect the Nation’s youth from violence, abuse, and exploitation. The agency provides funding and expertise to communities to develop and implement evidence-based programs for assisting the Nation’s children. This report is part of the reporting requirements for OJJDP grantees and provides information on the major accomplishments of the office for fiscal year 2009. The information is presented in five chapters: 1) OJJDP’s major accomplishments aimed at reducing children’s exposure to violence; 2) partnerships formed by OJJDP to prevent and intervene in delinquency; 3) examination of OJJDP’s grant programs – the Formula Grants Program, the Juvenile Accountability Block Grants Program, the Community Prevention Grants Program, and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Program; 4) OJJDP programs to defend children against victimization; and 5) resources and information provided by OJJDP for professionals in the juvenile justice field.
