Annotation: THIS REPORT CONTAINS A REVIEW OF LITERATURE RELEVANT TO THE PATROL OPERATIONS OF CIVILIAN CLOTHES UNITS AND UNIFORMED TACTICAL UNITS AND THE USE OF MECHANICAL DEVICES, AND THE EVALUATION OF THESE ACTIVITIES.
Abstract: THIS LITERATURE REVIEW IS SUPPLEMENTED WITH THE PRELIMINARY FINDINGS GATHERED FROM A SURVEY OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS CONDUCTED BY THE INSTITUTE FOR HUMAN RESOURCES RESEARCH IN BETHESDA, MARYLAND. THE MAJOR ISSUES INVESTIGATED IN THIS REPORT ARE: THE TYPES, USES AND EFFECTS OF SPECIALIZED PATROL; THE METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION AND REVIEW; THE ORGANIZATIONAL CONSEQUENCES OF SPECIALIZATION; THE IMPACT OF SPECIALIZED PATROL ON THE COMMUNITY; AND THE EVALUATION OF SPECIALIZED PATROL ACTIVITIES. THE THREE TYPES OF SPECIALIZED PATROL ARE FURTHER ANALYZED BY USES - LOCATION ORIENTED, CRIME ORIENTED, OR SUSPECT ORIENTED.
