Annotation: THIS SPECIAL REPORT BY THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES CONTAINS THREE MAJOR ARTICLES DEALING WITH CRIME TRENDS, CRIME PREVENTION, LOCAL GOVERNMENT ANTI-CRIME EFFORTS AND THE EFFORTS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF LEAA.
Abstract: A SUMMARY OF CURRENT ISSUES IN CRIME AND JUSTICE IS PROVIDED AS WELL. CURRENT ISSUES DISCUSSED IN THE REPORT ARE HANDGUN CONTROL, SECURITY AND PRIVACY, MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCING, AND REFORM OF THE FEDERAL CRIMINAL CODE. THE MAJOR ARTICLES EXPLORE SUCH SPECIFIC TOPICS AS THE EFFECTIVENESS AND RELIABILITY OF CRIME MEASUREMENT METHODS; THE RELATIONSHIP OF LEAA, THE STATE PLANNING AGENCIES, AND LOCAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS; SUGGESTED REFORMS OF THE LEAA; AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LEAA IN REACHING ITS GOAL OF CRIME REDUCTION.
