Annotation: THIS STUDY PRESENTS AN HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF FEMALE DELINQUENCY IN JEFFERSON COUNTY AND THE RESULTS OF A FOLLOW UP ANALYSIS OF FEMALE DELINQUENTS RELEASED FROM TREATMENT.
Abstract: THE HISTORICAL ANALYSIS CONTAINS DATA ON FEMALE REFERRALS FROM 1968 THROUGH 1973 AND CONTAINS DATA CONCERNING DEMOGRAPHIC AND ADJUDICATION VARIABLES. THIS DATA WAS COLLECTED FROM THE ANNUAL REPORTS PUBLISHED BY THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND PLANNING. IT INCLUDES INFORMATION COLLECTED FROM THE METROPOLITAN SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT. INTAKE FORM INCLUDING LIVING ARRANGEMENT, FAMILY INCOME, EMPLOYMENT STATUS, RECEIPT OF PUBLIC ASSISTANCE, EDUCATION CLAIMED, SCHOOL STATUS AT TIME OF REFERRAL, MANNER OF HANDLING, AND GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF RESIDENCE. THE DISPOSITION ATTACHMENT YIELDS INFORMATION CONCERNING ADJUDICATION. THE SECOND SECTION OF THIS REPORT CONCERNS 497 FEMALES ADJUDICATED TO TREATMENT FROM JULY 1968 TO JUNE 1972. THIS IS A STUDY OF THE FEMALES AFTER TREATMENT TO DETERMINE RECIDIVISM. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE YOUNGER THE FEMALE WAS AT FIRST OFFENSE AND AT TIME OF COMMITMENT, THE HIGHER HER CHANCES OF FAILURE AFTER RELEASE. ALSO, IN-TREATMENT OFFENDERS AND THOSE WHO WERE RELEASED FROM TREATMENT QUICKLY HAD LITTLE CHANCE OF SUCCESS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
