Annotation: THIS IS A MANUAL FOR THE USE OF THE MANAGERS AND OWNERS OF HOUSING WHICH INSTRUCTS THEM IN THE VARIOUS MEANS AVAILABLE FOR IMPROVING SECURITY IN EXISTING RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS.
Abstract: THE MANUAL DISCUSSES THE COMPARATIVE USE OF HARDWARE, SECURITY PERSONNEL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT. MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT SHOWS HOW THESE COMPONENTS INTERACT AND HOW EACH CAN BE USED TO SUPPLEMENT THE OTHER. COST AND EFFECTIVENESS ARE CRITICAL FACTORS IN ALL OUR DISCUSSIONS. AS THE PHYSICAL DESIGN OF BUILDINGS AND THE SITE PLANNING OF HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS ARE KEY FACTORS IN PROVIDING SECURITY, THE OPERATING MECHANISMS IN BOTH ARE DEALT WITH AT LENGTH. FINALLY, AS THE FAILING OF MOST SECURITY MANUALS LIES IN THEIR INABILITY TO DISCUSS MEANS FOR PROVIDING SECURITY AS A TOTAL SYSTEM, WE HAVE SPENT MUCH EFFORT IN EXPLAINING THE ISSUES INVOLVED. AS A FURTHER ILLUSTRATIVE DEVICE, THE MANUAL CONCLUDES WITH FIVE ACTUAL CASE STUDIES, EMPLOYING A MIXTURE OF GROUND MODIFICATIONS, NEW HARDWARE AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT, AND THE USE OF SECURITY PERSONNEL, TO ACHIEVE A TOTAL SECURITY SYSTEM.
