Annotation: THIS VIDEOTAPE PRESENTS A CASE STUDY OF THE SAN FRANCISCO SUPERIOR COURT'S TRANSITION TO A MASTER CALENDAR SYSTEM, WHICH DECREASED THE TIME BETWEEN INITIAL FILING AND TRIAL FROM SEVEN MONTHS TO WITHIN THE STATUTORY 60 DAYS.
Abstract: THE PROGRAM DOCUMENTS THE MAJOR EVENTS THAT MARKED THE TRANSITION AND HIGHLIGHTS THE KEY POLICIES THAT CONTRIBUTED TO ITS SUCCESS. IN ADDITION, IT LOOKS AT THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF MASTER CALENDARING AND CONSIDERS THE QUALITY OF JUSTICE THE SYSTEM CAN PROVIDE. A SPECIAL FOCUS OF THE PROGRAM IS THE MASTER CALENDAR CLERK AND THE SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THAT JOB FOR HANDLING THE VARIETY OF PROCEEDINGS THAT TAKE PLACE IN THE MASTER CALENDAR DEPARTMENT. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE SOME OF THE PROBLEMS AND SUCCESSES EXPERIENCED IN ADOPTING A MASTER CALENDAR SYSTEM. THIS PROGRAM IS PART OF A TRAINING AND EDUCATION MODULE FOR CALIFORNIA COURTHOUSE PERSONNEL.
