Annotation: SUMMARY OF FINDINGS FROM A STUDY ON THE USE OF THE MANAGEMENT BY OBJECTIVES (MBO) APPROACH TO COURT PLANNING AND ASSISTANCE OFFERED TO THE JUVENILE DEPARTMENT IN THE AREAS OF MANAGEMENT AND SPACE NEEDS.
Abstract: THE LEWIS COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT IS A TWO JUDGE COURT OF GENERAL TRIAL JURISDICTION, INCLUDING JUVENILE MATTERS, AND IT SERVES APPROXIMATELY 46,000 PEOPLE LIVING IN AN AREA OF 2,400 SQUARE MILES. THE REPORT FOR THE JUVENILE DEPARTMENT OUTLINES THE UTILITY OF THE MBO APPROACH TO COURT ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS, PROVIDES IMPLEMENTATION RECOMMENDATIONS, AND IDENTIFIES OTHER AREAS WHICH MIGHT NEED FUTURE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. AMONG AREAS DISCUSSED IN THE MANAGEMENT AND FACILITIES NEEDS SECTION WERE THE NEED TO DEVELOP AN ADEQUATE STATISTICAL SYSTEM, A REVIEW OF PRESENT MANAGEMENT OF JUVENILE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES, AND AN IDENTIFICATION OF THE SHORT AND LONG TERM FACILITY NEEDS OF THE DEPARTMENT. A SUMMARY OF THE PRINCIPAL TOPICS DISCUSSED AND THE CONSULTANTS' RESULTANT RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PRESENTED, WITH SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED IN THE APPENDICES. THE APPENDICES CONTAIN DEMOGRAPHIC DATA ON LEWIS COUNTY, CASELOAD DATA STATISTICS, GUIDELINES FOR EVALUATING JUVENILE DETENTION AND CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, EXAMPLES OF OTHER JUVENILE FACILITIES, AND A LIST OF CURRENT JUVENILE DIVERSION PROGRAMS.
