Title: ON INDIVIDUAL VICTIMS OF CERTAIN CRIMES IN FOUR SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES 1970-74 - A COMPARATIVE STUDY
Author(s): P WOLF
Date Published: 1976
Page Count: 36
Type: Report (Study/Research)
Format: Document
Language: English
Country: United States of America
Annotation: THIS PAPER, PRESENTED AT THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON VICTIMOLOGY IN BOSTON IN SEPTEMBER 1976, REVIEWS CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION STUDIES IN SCANDANAVIA.
Abstract: BECAUSE OF THE INADEQUACIES AND LIMITATIONS OF REGULARLY COLLECTED CRIME RATE STATISTICS, BASED ON INCIDENTS KNOWN OR REPORTED TO THE POLICE, INFORMED RESEARCH EVALUATING THE EFFECTS OF CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL PROGRAMS IS ALMOST PRECLUDED. REALIZING THIS, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES RELEVANT CRIME STUDIES OF THE FOLLOWING TYPES: VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL OR CASUALTY WARDS THROUGHOUT SCANDANAVIA; VICTIM SURVEYS IN GENERAL; VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE IN FOUR SELECTED SCANDANAVIAN COUNTRIES; AND INDIVIDUAL VICTIMS OF PROPERTY CRIMES IN THREE SELECTED SCANDINAVIAN COUNTRIES. THE DATA ARE COMPARED, CONTRASTED, AND COMPILED INTO CHARTS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT COMPARISON OF STUDIES BETWEEN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES IS DIFFICULT, BUT THAT VICTIMIZATION DATA ARE VALUABLE NONETHELESS. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED.
Index Term(s): Comparative analysis; Property crimes; Scandinavia; Studies; Victimization; Victimology; Violence
