Annotation: A PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO PRE-DETERMINE THE EXTENT AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT AND RESISTANCE INVOLVING PROPOSED JUVENILE DELINQUENCY POLICY AND PROGRAM ISSUES.
Abstract: FINDINGS ARE PRESENTED CONCERNING THE PERCEPTIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF ELEVEN SUBGROUPS IN FLORIDA WITH RESPECT TO 28 POLICY SUGGESTIONS AND 29 PROPOSED PROGRAMS, THEIR SIMILARITIES AND THEIR DIFFERENCES. SURVEY RESPONDENTS INCLUDED POLICE OFFICERS, CORRECTIONS OFFICERS, EDUCATORS, SCHOOL COUNSELORS, STATE AND PRIVATE YOUTH SERVICES, COURT OFFICIALS, SOCIAL WORKERS, ADULT INMATES, ADJUDICATED YOUTHS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THIS REPORT BRIEFLY OVERVIEWS AND DISCUSSES SOME OF THE LITERATURE REGARDING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, REPORTS THE METHODOLOGIES USED IN THE DATA COLLECTION AND DATA ANALYSIS PHASES, SUMMARIZES THE FINDINGS FROM THE STUDY, INTERPRETS AND SUMMARIZES THE 740 OPEN-ENDED RESPONSES THAT RESPONDENTS VOLUNTEERED, AND DRAWS SOME CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS. SURVEY FINDINGS ON THE MAIN POINTS OF EACH MAJOR TOPIC ARE DISCUSSED FOLLOWED BY MENTION OF THE DEGREE OF SUPPORT/RESISTANCE ACCORDING TO SUBGROUPS. A BRIEF DESCUSSION OF THE CORRECTIONAL ANALYSIS DATA IS THEN PRESENTED. THE MAIN FINDINGS FROM A DISCRIMANT ANALYSIS BY SUBGROUP IS GIVEN NEXT.
