Annotation: THIS STUDY EXAMINES THE QUALITY OF TRAINING PROGRAMS APPROVED BY THE KANSAS LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING CENTER. CORRECTIONAL TRAINING IN KANSAS IS ACCOMPLISHED AT THREE TRAINING CENTERS.
Abstract: THE STUDY NOT ONLY INVESTIGATES THE QUALITY OF TRAINING AND NUMBER OF HOURS OFFERED, BUT ALSO THE FACILITIES, CONSOLIDATION OF ACADEMIES, IMPROVEMENT OF PRESENT PROGRAMS, IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW PROGRAMS, AND DEVELOPMENT OF DIFFERENT PROGRAMS FOR THE VARIOUS AGENCIES. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE ALSO MADE REGARDING FUNDING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING, THE PRESENT AND FUTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE ACADEMY, AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE PLACEMENT OF THE ACADEMY UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS. FURTHER RECOMMENDATIONS CALL FOR BASIC CERTIFICATION TRAINING THROUGH A CENTRALIZED TRAINING ACADEMY, CONSIDER LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING, FIND THE CORRECTIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM AND PHYSICAL FACILITIES ADEQUATE, AND DISCUSS A CONSOLIDATION OF ACADEMIES, NEW PROGRAMS, DIFFERENCES IN TRAINING NEEDS OF DIFFERENT AGENCIES, FUNDING SOURCES, AND THE ORGANIZATION OF THE STATE TRAINING ACADEMY.
