Annotation: STATISTICS ON INDICTABLE OFFENSES AND OFFENSES PUNISHABLE ON SUMMARY CONVICTION IN CANADA DURING 1972 ARE REPORTED.
Abstract: THE PROVINCES OF CANADA, EXCLUDING QUEBEC AND ALBERTA, ARE REPRESENTED IN THIS COMPILATION OF STATISTICS. THE PERSON WAS USED AS THE BASIC STATISTICAL UNIT IN PART I, WHICH PRESENTS DATA ON THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PERSONS CHARGED WITH INDICTABLE OFFENSES IN 1972, TOGETHER WITH THE RESULTS OF PROCEEDINGS, THE TYPE OF OFFENSE RESULTING IN CONVICTION, AND SENTENCES IMPOSED. THE CONVICTION IS THE BASIC UNIT IN PART II, WHICH PRESENTS STATISTICAL BREAKDOWNS ON BOTH INDICTABLE OFFENSES AND OFFENSES PUNISNABLE ON SUMMARY CONVICTIONS. PARTS III AND IV COVER COURT PROCEEDINGS FOR INDICTABLE OFFENSES AND APPEALS FOR BOTH TYPES OF OFFENSES, RESPECTIVELY. (IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH).
