Abstract: THE PROPOSED SYSTEM IS ON-LINE; I.E., DATA PERTAINING TO THE OPERATION OF THE JUVENILE PROBATION DIVISION CAN BE ENTERED INTO AND RETRIEVED DIRECTLY FROM THE COMPUTER BY THE PROBATION STAFF. THERE ARE PROVISIONS FOR ACCESS TO THE SYSTEM BY OTHER AUTHORIZED AGENCIES, SUCH AS THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE PROPOSED SYSTEM CAN PROVIDE STRUCTURED REPORTS (E.G., ACTIVE CASELOAD BY WORKER) AS WELL AS AD HOC REQUESTS. NEW DATA WILL BE ENTERED AS THEY ARE RECEIVED AND INFORMATION ACCESSED AS IT IS REQUIRED, RATHER THAN AT SPECIFIED, PREDETERMINED TIMES. THE SYSTEM HAS PROVISIONS FOR ASSURING THE RELIABILITY, TIMELINESS, AND SECURITY OF THE DATA, AND FOR PROTECTING AGAINST LOSS OF INFORMATION SHOULD THE MAIN SYSTEM BECOME INOPERATIVE. DEVELOPMENT COSTS ARE ESTIMATED AT $59,500; ANNUAL OPERATING COSTS AT $24,900 OR $37,400, DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF SECURITY SYSTEM USED. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT IMPLEMENTATION WILL REQUIRE 8 MONTHS.
